Mamod marine engine is a double acting twin cylinder,with 2 9.50mm dia pistons,which will operate in forward or reverse,and is self starting. my dad got one of the steam tractors for my Grandad many years ago now. it turned out that Grandpa wasn't interested in steam engines so the puffer eventually ended up being given to me.
Was the camera used to record this also from the era of steam?

I’ve always been fascinated by how stationary steam engines and traction engines can use drive belts and line shafts to power nearly any mechanical device. These are such fun toys! I love my Wilesco steamroller.

Looks MSS to me.
it is a MAMOD engine as far as I am aware mss has never done a twin osc marine engine.It has been in production for over 8 years to great reviews. You will find them on our web page along with the vertical marine boiler
Superb and lovely models, BUT one thing is amiss. I can not , with my best will understand that Mamod with such an experience in model steam engines continue to use these silly oscillating cylinders. It is SO MUCH more realistic to use real double acting cylinders with flat or round valves. The locomotives, steam rollers er vintage cars looks silly with the humming bird like motion of the oscillating cylinders. Wilesco of Germany have done it right. But on the other hand, the Mamod models ( the rolling units that is) are generally better in design and detail. So Mamod: Real steam engines have valve gear with excentric transmission……..
But I personally think that the oscillating cylinders are the thing that makes mamod so special and nostalgic
I have a Wilesco steamroller, so I like them better for their cylinders, but Mamod has a great line of railway models.

Good sir these are miniature models for hobbiests, I have the steam roller and it's great.
They need hobby grade RC electronics in them . You'll sell more models that way and to leave a spare servo plug for an AIO First Person View camera would also be a great selling feature . I think the best way of doing it would be to have it as an upgrade kit for all ground based models, cheers from America your models have been a big inspiration to me I hope I've been helpful
morning wes in the next couple of weeks we will be releasing for the larger locos a tender with remote control .with a battery pack receiver and a jack so a servo can be plugged in.thanks for the suggestions

I like the idea of keeping electronics an option since at least for me the appeal comes from the fact that the models are purely mechanical.
if you drill a hole in the plastic knob you can attach a servo

Hmmmm my Mamod Traction Engine that I had as a kid (must dig it out again) never moved that fast. I ran it stationary most of the time as cylinder didn't seem to have the power to move it.

They finally got it right with a slide valve engine. That oscillating older type really wasnt consistent.

Hi there, sorry but the castings ie wheels smoke boxes etc are produced outside of mamod. But there are lots of other turned parts made here.
love it, i'd like to see some stuff on the castings too!
